Riviera Paddlesurf is a fairly new company, but in their short time, they’ve managed to put out some pretty interesting boards. The group started in Southern California with the goal of producing SUP boards only and they managed to become an established brand in quite a short amount of time.
Family owned, Riviera is guided by no other business goals other than manufacturing high-quality stand up paddle boards using only the best materials available.
Riviera Paddle Boards Reviews
Riviera – Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board 2015, Blue, 11’0″
Type: Touring / All Around Paddle Board
Size: 11 x 34 x 6
Weight: 24 lbs
Weight Limit: 200 lbs
Great for traveling, river paddling, and boating, Riviera Inflatable should be the go-to paddle board for any newcomer to the sport. Due to its sturdy construction, the Riviera Inflatable can be dropped on the ground or bumped into rocks without the fear of damaging it. Needless to say, the people from Riviera had beginners in mind when designing this particular board, which is why they made it so durable to begin with.
Packed with a rolling backpack for easy transport and a high volume pressure gauge/pump, the Riviera Inflatable requires no additional tools to get it working. It also comes equipped with a traction pad, a rubber patch repair kit, carrying handles, D-ring at the tail, and a nose bungee system to ensure all the pieces stay together. Last but not least, given its sturdy construction and fairly affordable price, the Inflatable is among the best solutions on the market for newcomers to the sport.
Riviera Soft Top 8’0″
Type: All Around Paddle Board
Size: 8 x 28 x 4
Weight: 18 lbs
Weight Limit: 200 lbs
Riviera Soft Top is seen as THE perfect solution for first time paddlers according to paddleboarding experts, not only due to its fairly affordable price but also thanks to its small, maneuverable size.
Not only is is maneuverable due to its reduced size but also due to the fact that it has a pulled in nose and pinched rails. They allow the Soft Top to navigate rogue waves much better than other, bigger paddle boards.
The Soft Top is built using a Riviera Select Construction, incorporating fiberglass, carbon fiber, bamboo, SYNTEK, and EVA Foam. This makes it not only lighter when riding it against the waves but also much more resistant than other boards in its category. Needless to say, Soft Top was designed with the rider’s comfort in mind first, so the sturdiness and the maneuverability do, unfortunately, impact the board’s overall speed.
Lastly, the board’s multiple layer build allows it to take quite a bit of abuse before showing any signs of damage to its exterior, although you should be careful not to drop it repeatedly just in case.
Riviera 11-6 Recreational
Type: All Around Paddle Board / Surfing / Touring
Size: 11 x 33 x 4.8
Weight: 32 lbs
Weight Limit: 210 lbs
Yet another ideal board for first time paddlers, the Riviera Recreational offers great floatability and stability at the same time. Very stable by design, this particular board comes with traction and a built-in handle for carrying. At 11’6 length and 33″ width, the Recreational is very well proportioned, although it would have been better if it was slightly wider. Still, the board handles itself rather well when dealing with medium to large waves, just as long as it is handled properly by its rider.
Last but not least, the Recreational features a slightly pulled in nose and pinched rails, allowing it to shift directions rather easily. Its sturdy build also allows it to carry a 210 pound rider in quite a stable fashion, even if the rider is a newcomer to the sport.
Speaking of newcomers, due to how balanced the board is, it is the perfect solution for those looking to buy a paddle board but who do not yet know what type of board they should get.
Riviera Paddlesurf Voyager
Size: 12 x 32 x 5.25
Weight: 32 lbs
Weight Limit: 250 lbs
The Voyager is designed to provide maximum comfort and stability while facing the open water, which is also the reason why so many beginners use it nowadays. Built as a touring board, the Voyager measures 12 feet in length and 32 inches in width, providing quite a bit of space for its rider at all times. It also uses a single fin system which allows it to be used as a racing board if its rider knows what he/she is doing.
Another great aspect of the Voyager is its price. As a matter of fact, this is one of the best paddle boards of this class that you can get in this price range without missing out on any features that large touring boards have. Not only does it provide great value for money, but it is also available in a variety of tie-down configurations that involve specific gear and accessories for you to get the most out of this truly exquisite paddle board.
It should also be said that Riviera Paddle Boards are among the most affordable boards on the market, which some would say, explains the reason why they are so popular among beginners. Still, do not let their price fool you, most Riviera boards are made of the highest quality materials available nowadays and their structural integrity is of the highest standard. Therefore, it isn’t much of a surprise that their top-of-the-line products are preferred by experienced surfers on a budget.
